Evangelical Assembly Church (EAC)
(Relief and Development Department)

First to be named is Evangelical Assembly Church and its Relief and Development Department. It is purely a non profit Christian organisationin Manipur where the Relief and Development department has a prominent role. The thrust area of this organization is the spiritual aspects of humanity.Set up in 2004,it has been helping the community bring a holistic development. The department is headed by the secretary and enjoys a significant autonomy with separate board. The thrust areas include livelihood, food security, environment and gender.

 

People’s Endeavour for social change (PESCH)

It is one of the renowned community based non-profit development organizations in Manipur. The Jiriban based organization operates mainly at Tamenglong district. Set up in 1997, it comprises a circle of members, executive members and staff members. The support comes from Sir Dorabji from Germany. Tata trust and Alliance trust through RNBA and Habit for Humanity India have no less support in it.

The concern area include food security through protection of water bodies, land, and flora and fauna management.

 

Weaker Sections Development Council (WSDC)

Popularly known as WSDC, the organization aims at enabling rural community to ensure gender equality, social equality, sustainable peace and development in the state. The organization has a slew of strategies to reach the goal: These includeawareness and capacity building, Network and alliance building, Lobby and advocacy, Women Leadership apart from Case study and documentation. The organization targets the indigenous lot, farming fraternity, Widows, Women organization, civil societies and local leaders in the state.

 

Rural Women Upliftment Society (RWUS, Manipur State)

The name of the organization itself suggests the it works to uplift the rural women. Set up in 1990, the organization has been advocating empowering people for justice, peace and development. The major areas of intervention include Food security and right to food, Women leadership and their security and Natural Resources relating to extractive issues. It is engaged in different networks at different levels—–local, regional, national and international forums

Headquartered at Sielmat in Churachandpur district of Manipur, the organization is manned by 11 regular staffs and 9 volunteers in the field.

 

Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE)

CORE, the Centre for Organisation Research and Education enjoys a separate degree of veneration in the socio cultural life in Manipur. The 26 year old organization has a Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The focus is concentrated on the documentation of human rights abuses in the north east. It centres around the trauma and torture, summary or extrajudicial execution, indigenous rights, land rights, right to self-determination, as well as unjust evictions, environmental and cultural destruction.

CORE operates the Human to Human Trans-cultural Centre for Victims of Torture (H2H)–an independent health and humanitarian service provides that counsels and supports for survivors of trauma and torture and their families in Manipur. It has rolled out a slew of new initiatives. It has the Nungsit-Free Media Centre, concentrating on the protection of journalists, Right to Information activists and Human rights defenders and their right to freedom of expression, through a legal defence fund and advocacy.

 

Reformed Presbyterian Church of North Eastern India (RPCNEI)

Known to the people as RPCNEI, the organization was set up as a missionary church and a non-profit charitable organizationon April 8 in 1979. Initially it involved only 7 households. This is what the first Reformed Denomination existing in the north east. Now the Church is an association of 107 local churches with more than 14,038 members in the entire region apart from Myanmar, which is organized in five Presbyteries and five Mission fields. The vision isSelf-governance, empowered communities, who are co-existing and peaceful, and where love, justice, compassion and socio-economic prosperity which is in the reach of all, without exclusion.

 

AZSU (All Zeliangrong Students Union)

Over the last few years, AZSU has become a household word. The All Zeliangrong Students Union is a community based student organisation working in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. The Zeliangrong kindred tribes are comprises Zeme, Liangmai, and Rongmei. The Union was set up 48 years back to work in the field of human rights, dams, oil exploration, human trafficking, and other issues.

The Zeliangrong Students Union consists of Zeliangrong Students Union of Assam (ZSUA), Zeliangrong Students Union of Manipur (ZSUM) and Zeliangrong Students Union of Nagaland (ZSUN). ZSUN is one of the participantsin this project. The Zeliangrong Students Union of Nagaland has some laid down aims. These includeupholding the spirit of unity, co-operation, promoting dignity of the Naga people, congenial atmosphere for academic, cultural and other related pursuits; exploring civilization and modernization, curbing corruption as a vigilance body compromising community leaders and lobby with the government on important topics having major impact on the local people and their environments.

 

IRMA (Integrated Rural Management Association)

The self-help mission for sustainable livelihood concentrates on mobilizing collective actions of the community to ensure participation of women in governance and developing their skills through workshops and trainings. The objectives include capacity building of women for effective participation in decision making at all levels, Economic empowerment of women.

 

SIPHRO (Sinlung Indigenous Poeples Human Rights Organization)

Headquartered in Delhi, the Sinlung Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Organization is an organization which stands for truth, justice and peace. The area of concentration is the rights of the Sinlung indigenous people. The organization has its working office in Manipur – basically known for epoch–making research in the field of environmental human rights and other related issues. Awareness and capacity building of civil society and community on indigenous rights and lobbing and advocacy. Its general head office is in Delhi and working office is in Manipur.

 

Grassroot

The name itself suggests that the organization has been dedicated to the well being of the common people. A group of young people set up the organization at Wahingdoh area in Shillong. The  aim was to ensure development, economic empowerment and social change in the society. Later the concentration centredaroundculture, youth, livelihood and advocacy. Since then, it has been facilitating the programmes in both the rural and urban areas.

Grassroot enjoys its association with young people for enhancement of their skills and caliber for societal change.

The organization aims at ensuring responsibility and power to the individuals and the community with focus on Culture and Tradition, Youth, Livelihood and Advocacy. Key areas of concern include Culture and Tradition, Youth and access to legal information for the people.

 

Indraprastha Public Affairs Centre (IPAC)

IPAC is known to be a centre for non-profit lobby and advocacy support. It functions as an intermediary between civil society groups, human rights organisations and decision makers influencing policy decisions that can help the society develop on all crucial fronts.

It further aims at providing social justice more effectively by helping leadership to be strategic and effective in its engagement with public sector.  The core areas of operation include capacity building on engagement with public sector;documentation, Campaign planning, conference holding and ensuring an easy access networks.

 

Assam Times Foundation

Another associates of CENRs is the Assam Times Foundation (ATF). It is purely a non-profit collective of information technology experts and media practitioners dedicated to promote of information technology and media working towards a credible and a vibrant democracy.  Its aims at providing dignified access to Citizen Journalism, New Media and Access to Free and Open Source Software and Technology. It further focuses information networking, dissemination and capacity building.

In 2013 ATF instituted the North East Green Journalism Award to encourage and support consistent reportage on crucial environmental issues in the north east.
